Why Every Home with Gothic Décor Could Use a Dragon or Two

The Dragon of Falkenberg Castle Moat Lawn StatueCertain animals seem to be right at home in different decorating themes. Gardens with an Asian theme look twice as good with Panda statues and sculptures of cranes. Animal garden statues of Cheetahs and other African wildlife fit right in with beautiful Egyptian decorations while a Winged Pegasus or Unicorn find their niche in homes and gardens with more mystical, magical themes.

The Gothic-themed abode also has its signature animal and although it would be tempting to give that title to the gargoyle, those creeping, wall climbing creatures are more of a monster than an animal. Although one could just as easily describe dragons as monsters, they still fit more comfortably into the animal category.

Dragons are the magical, fire-breathing animals that have fascinated people throughout the world for thousands of years. If they ever had a home in a decorating theme, Gothic fits the bill perfectly. In fact, a Gothic-decorated place without a dragon or two just doesn't look complete.

A dragon like the Falkenberg Castle Moat Lawn Statue will look perfect as it "swims" through your garden and provides that classic draco look with a horned head, toothy maw, and scaled hide. Inside the home, decor like the Wolfram Dragons Sculptural Wall Shelf will round out your display of Gothic decorations.

Stone Garden Angel or Animal Statues for the Yard?

Tian Shan, the Asian Panda SculptureGarden statuary comes in so many shapes, themes, and sizes that it can be hard to pick out the sculptures meant to beautify your backyard. Although some of those big, Buddha statues look downright inspirational, most folks tend to feel like they look out of place in non Asian-themed gardens. The same goes for Greek garden statues in a backyard that already hosts sculptures of a Giant Panda and pagodas. If the backyard is big enough, you could probably get away with dedicating different corners of the yard to different decorating themes but mixing them together is likely to result in a confusing, crowded, conglomeration of statuary.

In the case of angel statues, though, their universal appeal helps them fit into a wide variety of decorating themes. As long as an angel is placed off to the side of Asian-themed statues, they don't cause much of an intrusion. The same goes for a yard replete with animal garden statues. Although the animal sculptures are more colorful and generally realistic than sculptures of angels, as long as both types of statuary are kept somewhat separate, they don't really disrupt the decorating theme.

Is your backyard graced with angel and animal statues? Do you mix them together or keep them separated? Tell us about your yard in the comments!

What Does a Large Buddha Statue Say About Your Backyard?

Giant Buddha Monument-Sized Garden SculptureThe garden statuary used to decorate the green space behind your house says as much about you as it does the yard. Put up a few classic Greek garden statues and you might have an appreciation for ancient cultures and art that lasts for ages. It might also represent pride in your Greek or other Mediterranean heritage and a tendency to appreciate realistic art forms.

A Buddha statue could show that you enjoy the neat appearance of an Asian-themed garden. This is almost certainly the case if the sculpture is flanked by bronze cranes or an animal yard statue of a panda. If the Buddha sculpture shares the backyard scene with statues of dragons and other legendary creatures, it might show that you have an imagination that appreciates fantasy novels and are intrigued by the many mysteries of life, or it could indicate that you are a practicing Buddhist.

However, if a look around the garden also reveals items as varied as garden fairies, animal statues, and water fountains, it could just be that you love to decorate your backyard with beautiful statues. No matter what the reason is for including a Buddha statue in the garden, both jolly and meditative depictions of the Buddha are a fantastic addition to any yard.

Garden Statuary for Enchanting Backyard Soirees

Mystical Unicorn of Avalon SculptureThe summer winds down in August and those dog days make more than a few of us ready for the refreshing winds of autumn. Even the trees seem ready to change the color of their leaves as you stroll through the backyard. Birds spend most of their time splashing around in one of your outdoor garden water fountains and you find yourself spending just as much time in the pool. However, despite the lazy, tired atmosphere so common during the last days of August, evenings can be downright enchanting.

As the sun once again turns the reins over to the dark skies of night, the shadows lengthen and the backyard takes on a different personality. Garden fairies seem ready to spring into action and animal garden statues like the Mystical Unicorn of Avalon turn the backyard into a place where magic still exists.

It's the perfect time for throwing enchanting backyard parties and the garden will reveal its true sylvan character with detailed sculptures like Simon the Fox or the Spitting Asian Dragon Bronze Garden Statue. These and other unique Design Toscano sculptures will turn your late summer backyard soirees into unforgettable evenings for all of your guests.

Dragon Gothic Décor

Hastings, the Warrior Dragon Glass-Topped Sculptural TableDragons have fascinated people for thousands of years. Are they memories of ancient beasts that have since turned to dust? Are tales of  winged serpents and monstrous, scaly creatures the products of imaginations inspired by instinctive fears in a pre-scientific world? Or, as in Asian dragons, are they symbols of good fortune and wisdom?

The reasons for the prevalence of dragons in cultures throughout the world will always be a mystery but that won't change their status as some of the most fantastic decorations on Earth. The Hastings Warrior Dragon Glass-Topped Sculptural Table pays homage to dragons with detailed, textured beauty. He also shows his strength by hoisting the table top high over his head. To keep with the dragon-themed room where Hastings serves goblets of mead and other Medieval drinks, provide lighting with the Marshgate Castle Dragon Sculptural Electrical Wall Sconce.

Out in the yard, if you love gargoyles but feel like the traditional versions are more at home on Gothic cathedrals, put up a few dragon-like gargoyles instead. Both Boden the Gargoyle Sentinel  and Argos the Gargoyle sentinel look ready to pounce with flashing claws and sharp-toothed muzzles.

Humorous Garden Statuary for an Asian-Themed Backyard

Tian Shan, the Asian Panda SculptureAsian-themed gardens aren't necessarily known for the comical side of life. Although they aren't exactly against laughter, the decor that is typically displayed usually lends to a general ambiance of peace and tranquility. Order is given to nature without overly disrupting natural lines and shapes. Statues of pagodas and Buddhas remind visitors that some aspects of life are timeless while bamboo fountains and animal garden sculptures of the Giant Panda are reminiscent of ancient, mystical Chinese mountains.

That said, humor can still be a part of any Asian-themed backyard. Laughter and smiles play just as much of a role in finding peace as meditating near a large Buddha statue. Sculptures of happy, smiling Buddhas demonstrate the importance of joy and fit into to any backyard decorating theme. For one of the cutest, funniest little Asian-themed statues, though, you can't go wrong with the ninja gnome sculpture. Yes, this little guy is both a ninja and a gnome and he's ready to use his magical stealth to protect your garden from squirrels, mischievous garden fairies, and other would be intruders. Although no true ninja needs any amount of back-up (they prefer to work alone), it won't hurt his ego to also deploy Basho the Sumo Wrestler.

Why Buy Big Garden Statuary?

Stone Garden AngelDecor comes in many shapes and sizes. As befits their attributes, "life-size" statues of garden fairies and gnomes are usually small. That works out well because it adds realism to their place in the garden. Just as real fairies would do, they hide in leafy flowerbeds, dance on the lawn, and perch on pedestals. They make for wonderful decor but larger items tend to make bigger statements.

Put a big stone garden angel into the garden and it transforms your backyard into seriously classy green space. Large, Asian decor makes a proud, peaceful proclamation about the theme in your backyard and putting out a few life-size animal statues will give your garden the most exciting decorations on the block.

Decorations are meant to be seen and large items like a Yeti statue or giraffe express that sentiment with zest. You can't miss those amazing sculptures and given their artistic value, it would be a shame for guests not to see them. Just as beautiful works of art are proudly displayed in museums and in the homes of art collectors, your unique, detailed objets d'art and statues from Design Toscano should also be placed where they can be admired.

You will find great deals on big, beautiful items for the garden at Design Toscano any time of the year but expect the best discounts at the annual warehouse sale on July 14th (from 8 AM to 4 PM) and July 15th (from 9 AM to 4 PM)!

The warehouse is located at 1400 Morse Avenue, Elk Grove Village, Illinois 60007.

The Elegance of Japanese Garden Statues

The Nara Temple: Asian Garden Pagoda SculptureGardens are an essential part of Japanese culture. While people from just about every culture plant and care for vegetables and other plants near their homes, the Japanese garden is in a class of its own. A high population density, Shinto philosophies, the challenge posed by the elements, and other factors have worked together to turn the Japanese garden into a veritable artform.

Gardens of course vary by owner and circumstance but in general, every statue, outdoor garden sculpture, rock, and bush seems to have been situated in the garden as part of the overall design. Each plant is trimmed in a manner than accentuates the beauty of the garden, and sculptures incorporated into the green space are nothing short of exquisite.

Sculptures like the Nara Temple Pagoda are an ideal choice for Japanese gardens given the caliber of details and quality that they demand. As graceful as it is elegant, this statue will be one of the highlights of any Japanese garden.

Water is elegance all on its own and is probably why liquid H2O is incorporated into most Japanese gardens. One fountain in particular that works well for even the most detailed of these gardens is the Cascading Bamboo Sculptural Fountain. It's height (nearly four feet) and ability to create natural "music" earn it a coveted spot in any Asian-themed backyard.

Last Day to Save get 20% off of Classic Garden Statuary

Venus of Arles Sculpture - GrandSculptures for outside come in many forms and sizes. There are realistic animal statues that can turn your garden into a scene from the deep forests of the Pacific northwest or the savannahs of wildest Africa. You can turn your garden into an exquisite Asian-themed abode or have garden fairies hiding in the flower beds while gargoyles guard the doorways to your house and glare down from the roof. However, as exciting as those backyard decorating themes are, they aren't classic.

That doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with them, it just means that they don't lend themselves to the same sort of atmosphere as Greek garden statues or other classic, fake stone sculptures. The classics refer to pieces created in the art tradition of ancient Greece and Rome. These are pieces like the Venus of Arles, statues of the Madonna, or a replica of "The Thinker" by Rodin.

Classic-themed sculptures are pieces that can easily stand out on their own and bring your mind to another time and place. Most were originally sculpted for this reason and the beautiful, detailed replicas of classic statues from Design Toscano continue to do just that in gardens across the nation.

Greenmen for the Summer Months

Bacchus, God of Wine: Greenman Wall SculptureEach season has its own set of garden statuary. Most sculptures for outside look great all year long but statues of African animals just look out of place when coated with ice and snow.  To me, statues of fairies seem perfect for warm spring and summer weather while religious and Asian-themed sculptures look fantastic any time of the year. When the cool weather of autumn blows in from the north, greenman wall decor can heighten the effects of the fall season in any backyard. Nevertheless, there are certain types of greenman decorations that have "summer" written all over their gnarled, wizened faces.

Bacchus, the God of Wine Wall Sculpture is one such piece. I just can't imagine the classical patron saint of summer parties being displayed at any other time of the year. As befits the original "king of the party", he sports bunches of wine grapes and looks ready for another drink. Make this summer sculpture feel right at home by putting him up on a sunny, ivy-covered wall.

The Le Printemps and Le Etoile French Greenman sculptures are perfect for spring but since "Le Etoile" means summer, both are just as beautiful during the months of June, July, and August.

Guard Your Home with These Asian Garden Sculptures

Thai Princess SculptureStatues are a peculiar form of art. Whereas paintings can depict scenes, people, and emotions, they are always going to be flat pictures that can only be viewed from the front. Sculptures, on the other hand, are three-dimensional representations of a subject or scene. You can walk around them and view them from every angle. When crafted with details that closely mimic reality, they can look as if they are going to come to life. This lifelike appearance has converted many a sculpture into functional art.

The function can come in the form of religious purposes, for remembrance, and as a means of warding off unwelcome guests. This latter purpose was the impetus for creating sculptures of gargoyle figurines in Europe, dragons in various parts of the world, and "Foo Dogs" in China. Anyone who has visited the Forbidden City in Beijing, China has been greeted by the intimidating and powerful Foo Dogs that guard its gates. With their large fanged maws, muscled bodies, and lion-like appearance, Foo Dogs are meant to scare off both evil spirits and erstwhile enemies. Flank the back door with a pair of these Asian Garden Sculptures to do the same.

Get beautifully detailed Foo Dog sculptures and other Asian garden statues for your home and garden at Design Toscano.

The Realism of Stealthy Animal Yard Statues

Prowling Spotted Jaguar StatueSculptures of animals are a natural fit for every garden. Even if you put statues of exotic animals on display, they can still seem right at home in any backyard. Put a tiger sculpture on display in an Asian-themed garden and it will blend in perfectly with your Buddha statues and pagodas. Show a mini-menagerie of African animals in the backyard and they look as if they belong out there with the rose bushes and tulips.

Unless there's a breakout at the local zoo,  you aren't going to see a jaguar in your backyard but even so, the Prowling Spotted Jaguar sculpture seems right at home as it sneaks through the grass. Realism in a sculpture doesn't just come from fine sculpted details and accurate colors. It also stems from the overall depiction of the statue and feelings that it generates. In the case of stealthy statues like the prowling jaguar, you couldn't be more realistic than showing a powerful feline in the process of stalking its prey. The same can be said for the beautiful, elegant Grande Black Panther Statue. These and other animal garden statues exclusive to Design Toscano are so realistic that it might take a week or two for your dogs to stop barking at them!

Buy these realistic sculptures and other fantastic decor from Design Toscano by Tuesday, May 29th and get 20% off the regular price!

Dragon Garden Statues for the Asian-themed Backyard

The classic, exotic beauty of an Asian-themed garden is a sight to behold. Carefully tended gardens have been an important part of east-Asian cultures for more than two thousand years. Trees can be tended for generations in the hope of attaining an exquisite, sculptured appearance. Beautiful wooden or stone bridges cross small streams and Koi ponds. Miniature pagodas, Buddha outdoor statues, and other sculptures are common features of Asian gardens. Dragon sculptures in particular are especially Benevolent Asian Dragon Statueimportant for adding a touch of authenticity and mysticism.

These mythical winged beasts have played an important role in many east-Asian cultures and are typically viewed as harbingers of good luck. Few dragon sculptures embody this belief better than the Benevolent Asian Dragon Statue. Sculpted by Chinese master artist Gary Chang, this wonderfully ornate dragon has an open, smiling mouth and appears ready to proclaim your good fortune and prosperity.

Another dragon for the garden that is more mystical in character is the Asian Dragon with Power Orb Solid Bronze Garden Sculpture. This serpentine dragon of water and wind demonstrates its magical prowess by clutching a power orb. This beautiful solid bronze sculpture comes in three different sizes and is also piped for use as a fountain.
