New Garden Statuary for Archeologists at Heart

Tuesday, May 15, 2012
by Jennifer Quigley

How many people get the chance to truly follow their dreams? When we are kids, one of the biggest questions is, "What do you want to be when you grow up"? Some of the most common answers are "firefighter", "police officer", or "nurse". Those answers probably have something to do with the uniforms Grand Megalithic Olmec Head Statuerather than the actual job but as kids get older, the answer becomes more refined and can be influenced by movies and personal experiences. Some of the movies that inspired a whole generation of kids are the "Indiana Jones" films.

Like a modern, swashbuckling hero, Indiana Jones confronted a cornucopia of dangers to keep artifacts out of the hands of evil-doers. He is the archeologist hero and thousands of young people wanted to be just like him. Needless to say, although archeologists can have adventures, the field is far more tedious and bereft of danger than the movies imply. Like any academic field, it's also highly competitive and few people actually end up following their dreams to become archeologists. However, even if you followed another career, you can still express your love of archeology with the Grand Megalithic Olmec Head Statue from Design Toscano. Modeled after one of the original Olmec head sculptures from Veracruz, Mexico, this objet d'art is so realistic that neighbors will wonder if you might be an Indiana Jones in disguise.

Garden Statuary also Includes Bridges

Saturday, May 12, 2012
by Jennifer Quigley

When most people think of statues or sculptures for the backyard, items like garden fairies or maybe a stone lion come to mind. As valid as these statues are for every garden, they only represent a fraction of the sculptures that can add personality to a backyard. While exquisite statues of fairies hide among the The Halfpence Cobblestone Bridgeflowerbeds, and scenery and animals immortalized in bronze liven up open spaces, bridges provide one of the nicer additions to a garden.

Although a real, stone bridge that can be used by people for crossing streams and ponds would be ideal, it might also cost just as much as putting a new addition onto your home or business. Luckily, you don't have to construct an entire, life-sized bridge to add one to the backyard. The Halfpence Cobblestone Bridge is a beautiful sculpture that can be placed over a trickle of water or a miniature gully. It might be too small for you to use but would work just fine for fairies and gnomes. With its cobblestone texture, this miniature replica of an old English bridge adds quaint realism to any garden.

Fairy Tale Kingdom Sculptures for Outside

Sunday, April 15, 2012
by Jennifer Quigley

The imaginary realms where elves battle goblins, dragons ply the skies on massive, bat wings, and Humpty Dumpty Sculpturewizened wizards cast their spells are more important than most people realize. Fairy tales and other fantasy genre stories help people escape from the daily doldrums of working a nine to five job. They also help people reflect upon morality and positive philosophies that can be related to reality. However, perhaps most of all, they have inspired many an artist to create amazing works of art that bring both the heroes and the villains to life in the form of paintings and garden statuary.

There are dozens of objets d'art exclusive to Design Toscano that turn your backyard into a fairy tale kingdom. Two of the best are:

  • The Humpty Dumpty Sculpture: He sat on a wall and had a big fall straight into the hearts and minds of millions of people. The old English rhyme about Humpty Dumpty is unforgettable and provokes all sorts of images and allegories. Putting this classic, detailed statue on one of your garden walls never fails to bring magic right into your backyard.
  • Treebeard Ent with Mystical Orb Statue: In the classic fantasy masterpieces written by Tolkien, Treebeard was the leader of the Ents. The "tree shepherds" looked after the forests and were among the oldest and wisest of all living creatures. They kept to themselves and were slow to anger but were unstoppable when provoked into action.

Blend Function and Action with These Outdoor Garden Water Fountains

Monday, April 9, 2012
by Jennifer Quigley

Quenching a Big Thirst Sculptural FountainGardens and backyards deserve more than carefully trimmed hedges, flourishing rose bushes, and a healthy variety of trees. Your personal green space always looks better when there are statues of garden fairies in the flowerbeds, greenmen on the oaks, and animal sculptures in the yard. However, no matter how many statues are in your beautiful backyard, it will always look better with a fountain or two. The sound and sight of bubbling water is just as refreshing to listen to and watch as a glass of ice cold H2O on a hot day in July.  Fountains also make for wonderful sculptures and are the perfect centerpieces for every garden.

The artistic themes of some fountains also add action to the backyard. The "Quenching a Big Thirst Sculptural Fountain" is one of the more popular fountains available from Design Toscano. Saint Bernards are big dogs with an even bigger thirst on hot summer days. It is a good thing that this fountain has a generous basin because the adorable Saint Bernard trying to get a drink is determined to quench its thirst.

The "Guzzling Gulp BlackBear Garden Fountain" is another hit for every backyard. The detail and colors on the tree stump and cute Black Bear are so realistic that backyard birds might never be too afraid to visit this fountain for a drink!

Animal Garden Sculptures in Action

Sunday, April 8, 2012
by Jennifer Quigley

Sculptures are created to depict a wide range of emotions and themes. Statues of angels typically show Mischievous Bear Cubs Sculpturepeaceful or sad expressions when they have been crafted for use in cemeteries or other places designated for grieving, healing, and self-reflection. Garden fairies, on the other hand, are fun, mischievous little creatures that represent curious, magical aspects of the natural world (your backyard included). Greenmen are rather stoic but help to bring trees to life with the expressions on their gnarled, woody faces. However, when it comes to action scenes, it can be hard to beat statues of animals.

Even when shown as still, non-moving sculptures, large cats always look ready to pounce. They prowl the undergrowth in search of prey and can bound into swift, deadly action in a matter of seconds. Statues of pandas are just as realistic in showing the comical side of this incredibly cute, bamboo eating animal. Nevertheless, one of the most realistic action scenes for any garden is the Mischievous Bear Cubs Sculpture. The details and expressions of the faces of the two bear cubs are so realistic that at first glance, guests will wonder if you have bears living in the backyard. Perched on a piece of driftwood, the bear cubs in this sculpture are always ready and eager to cause mischief.

Make Your Trees Talk with Greenmen

Wednesday, April 4, 2012
by Jennifer Quigley

Trees can take on mystical, majestic appearances no matter where they grow. Groves of tall pines seem to hide dark secrets and whisper about them as you walk on by. Willows bend over streams but let the water do the talking. Poplars and Maples laugh and shout in a stiff breeze while Oaks grumble beneath Whispering Wilhelm Tree Ent Sculpturestormy skies and threaten to drop their branches on those who would harm them.

You don't have to venture out into the wilderness to find magical scenes like this. Sometimes all it takes is a glance into the backyard to find places suitable for fairy dwellings and Ent gatherings. Nevertheless, every garden looks a lot more magical with certain, careful touches. To add that extra touch of magic to your backyard and give voice to your trees, put up a few greenmen.

These outdoor decorations also look great on walls but when placed on trees, they just about bring them to life. Put the beautifully detailed Whispering Wilhelm the Tree Ent Sculpture on any of your backyard trees and some guests may wonder if you have a tree shepherd living behind your home!

Indoor Sculptures for Spring

Wednesday, March 28, 2012
by Jennifer Quigley

Les Filles Joyeuses Neoclassical Pedestal UrnSpring is noted for being that time of year when a collective sigh of relief is let out as winter loses its grasp upon the landscape. No more shoveling of snow, no more chipping ice off the car, and no more wearing of bulky winter coats. It's easier to spend more time outside and this translates to more time for the garden. Although this makes Spring the perfect time of year to buy new garden statuary, it doesn't mean that decor should be limited to the backyard.

Spring also represents an opportunity to change up decor inside the home. Start another season of warmth with new Egyptian decorations or refreshing works of art like the Embrace Sculpture. This artistic, endearing scene will touch the hearts of all who see it.

This is also the season for adding new plants to the inside of a home. The beauty of greenery is intensified when plants are placed in sculptured urns. The neoclassical "Filles Joyeuses" pedestal urn is one such functional sculpture. The two young maidens holding an urn with elegant, outstretched arms add magnificence to every plant. This and other urns can also be used in the garden but they look even better when displayed inside the home.

Two of the Cutest Garden Fairies

Saturday, March 24, 2012
by Jennifer Quigley

Sculptures of fairies for the garden tend to be graceful, elegant, and simply magical. Quality resin garden statues of fairies inspire, beautify, and add atmosphere to every backyard. Adaptable as they are elegant, they look right at home when placed next to a flower bed or perched in a shady part of the garden. Most fairy statues are also undeniably cute. This should come as no surprise as cuteness seems to be a requisite for every fairy but even so, there are some fairy sculptures that excel in the cute category.

One such sculpture is the Ella, the Littlest Flower Fairy. Standing beneath a flower stalk, little Ella wears a petal gown, has dainty green-leaf shoes, and delicate, drooping wings. She looks out from her natural green hood with innocent wonder and in touching her finger to her lips, reveals that she is a true fairy child.

While Ella peers at garden visitors from a flower bed, another cute fairy sits on a swing in a nearby tree. The Summertime Fairy on a Swing wears a blue dress and adds an innocent, playful touch to the garden.

Bring Magic into the Backyard with Garden Fairies

Thursday, March 22, 2012
by Jennifer Quigley

The backyard doesn't have to be a simple, generic, sterile green space with a closely cut, uniform lawn. It can be but that won't accomplish anything more than making your backyard one of the most boring pieces of real estate on the block. That would be fine if you only wanted to use it for lawn bowling or as a place to Fairy of the West Wind Sitting Statuepractice your putt, but if you want to employ the backyard for any other purpose, it's good idea to give it a lot more character.

The right type of garden statuary will add immediate personality to any backyard but sculptures of fairies can make a garden look downright magical. Mysterious, mythical creatures that embody the wonder of nature, fairies hide in the nooks and crannies of old, creaking trees. Their cousins, the gnomes, silently scamper among the rocks but winged fairies are given speech by the wind blowing through fresh, Spring leaves. Their laughter can be heard in the cold, rushing water of stony brooks and garden fountains. Figurines of fairies remind us of nature's magic and add character to any garden.

Unveiling the Biggest, Scariest, Bigfoot Statue

Tuesday, March 13, 2012
by Jennifer Quigley

Bigfoot is an enigma. While millions of Americans and Canadians don't accept that there is a large, hair-covered undescribed Hominid stalking the dark forests of North America, a huge number of people do believe that Bigfoot exists. Many of these believers are folks who claim to have actually seen Bigfoot (aka Sasquatch) as it strolled across a road at night, howled from the darkness, or even threw large rocks at their cabin. Many of the stories and evidence are compelling and have made thousands of people wonder if the legends just might be true.

Sightings of the creature typically describe a large, bipedal ape-like animal with long arms and a large, domed head. It doesn't seem to want to harass anyone but that didn't stop the people who have supposedly sighted it from being absolutely terrified. A large, hairy creature certainly looks threatening but their fears probably just as likely stem from a brush with the unknown in the primeval, pitch black of the nighttime forest.

The artists at Design Toscano have recently released the fruits of four months of hard work that investigated stories about Bigfoot to come up with a huge life-size, detailed replica of the Great North American Ape. It's so big and looks so real that you may find neighbors filming footage of the Bigfoot in your yard a day after putting it into the garden.

Bigfoot in The Garden

Wednesday, February 29, 2012
by Jennifer Quigley

There is something mysterious about old, primeval forest. Massive trees stretch their way up into the sky to leave the forest floor in perpetual shade. The rustling of leaves in the undergroth reveals the presence of small animals that attempt to stay hidden from larger predators. Treetops are given voice by the wind and woodland birds enchant the forest with song. At night, however, the woods take on a different, more Bigfoot, the Garden Yeti Statuesinister appearance. The shadows grow long and dark and every sound sets your nerves on edge. Diurnal beings that we are, we can't see into the dim recesses and fear is quickly made tangible by repressed instinctive memories of predators lurking in the dark of the night.

Bigfoot might not be a predator but this legendary creature is every bit as scary and mysterious. People who have heard it howl in the night were petrified to the core. Those who have glimpsed this big, shaggy creature were both terrified and intrigued. Whether real or not, Sasquatch represents wilderness and the great unknown. Although a real Bigfoot isn't likely to turn up in your backyard (folks who reside in the Pacific Northwest might beg to differ), you can capture the essence of one of America's most persistent and fantastic folktales with the Bigfoot statue from Design Toscano. Hide it behind a tree decorated with greenmen to make its presence that much more realistic or let it walk among garden fairies and outdoor animal statues such as a tiger sculpture.

by Jennifer Quigley

Carpentry is one of the oldest profession on Earth. Ever since the first people began to make chairs, The Carlisle Window Benchbeds, and tables out of wood, carpenters have been playing a basic role in society. In present times, carpenters can still be found in most cultures. They build the roofs that shelter you from the elements. They use hammers, nails, and screwdrivers to add extensions to homes. Despite the abundance of machine-made furniture, carpenters also still craft fine pieces of furniture out of wood in many places in the world. They use ancient skills to carve and work wood to make beautiful chairs, tables, and other types of furniture. After the proper amount of painting and polishing, true works of art are crafted that add beauty to any home.

Don't fill your place with cheap, mass-production furniture. Accentuate its interior beauty with furniture hand-made by craftsmen who take pride in their trade. Sit back in a replica of an antique lounge chair at the end of a long day. Get a classy Carlisle Window Bench to enjoy the view of your beautiful garden statuary and garden fairies. Dress up your bedroom with a Queen Anne Dressing Table and Mirror.
