Historical weather vanes were primarily instruments for detecting weather changes by determining the direction of the wind but evolved as decorative displays of culture and style, often featuring the traditional cockerel design with letters indicating the points of the compass. Other common motifs include ships, arrows and horses.

Like the early, original weather vanes, our Design Toscano exclusive weather vanes have very ornamental pointers, which should add some interesting style elements to your Garden Statuary collection!

The history of the weather vane stretches back 2,000 years. The first weather vane appeared on the Tower of the Winds on the ancient Roman agora in Athens, which once bore on its roof a wind vane in the form of a bronze Triton. Holding a rod in his outstretched hand, the triton rotated as the wind changed direction.

If you're looking for a classic touch to your garden or to the exterior of your house, consider the traditional Strutting Rooster Full-Size Copper Weather Vane.  This quality piece is reminiscent of those found in historic cupolas (an arched or domed roof, as in an astronomical observatory).

Crafted from copper, this gorgeous weather vane features a proud rooster perched atop a powder-coated steel shaft that includes brass compass points and copper spacer balls.

Perfect atop any home pinnacle or cupola, this full-size, functional weathervane is hand-crafted to be water and rust resistant! This piece will go perfectly with your other Outdoor Animal Statues in your garden!
